History and Background
This dog was given the name “beagle” which means open throat in an old French language. It is said that it is related to the musicality in beagle’s voice. In fact, they were not recognized as beagle before 1475. The original use of this kind of dog was actually for hunting sport back then, especially in the 1300s. There were some of them that came in super small size which is called pocket beagles which hunters carried along with them during hunting. This dog is very playful yet because of their slow running, women found them nice to have. In 1642, they were first known to folks in the US and after American civil war, there were some English beagles taken to the country to be crossed with the domestic dog and that was how the American beagle was developed. Now, this breed is considered as one of the most popular dogs, especially in America.
This dog is classified as a medium sized dog with solid structure. You may find them look a lot like a foxhound. They are a favorite choice for hunting mate since they are easy to carry.
