Golden Retriever History and Background
It was Lord Tweed-mouth who lived next to the Tweed River, north of the Scottish border that is called as the one who is responsible for the first development of the golden retriever. At that time, there were some other retriever breeds around, but he wanted to create a new one that could challenge the situation in that area. The crossing was done between a Wavy-Coated Retriever with a Tweed Water Spaniel which produced four puppies which were great in hunting birds. And the second crossing was done between the yellow Wavy-Coated Retriever and Bloodhounds, black retrievers, setters, and Tweed Spaniels. It was resulting puppies with the unique yellow flat coat, but the characteristics and personalities were the same. In 1900, he and his of son went to the US and brought them along until in 1912, they were deemed to be a new breed and got their formal recognition as the golden retriever because they got a golden colored coat. In 1927, the American Kennel Club recognized them and they started to gain their popularity.
Golden Retriever Physical Characteristics
This dog has a sturdy and strong body which is quite long. They have well-defined hindquarters and forequarters which make them even stronger. They are not so tall and rather longer. Moreover, their head is pretty wide while the neck is very powerful. You may find them commonly in shades like gold. Their coat is waterproof and it can be either wavy or straight.
Golden Retriever Personality and Temperament
They are simply a sweetheart. They make a perfect companion and pet as well. With their playful, obedient, loyal and cheerful disposition, they are sure to be liked whenever they go. They love playing and enjoy outdoor activities. When they are inside the house they behave well by being calm and quiet. They are also trainable since this breed is also intelligent.

They so shed quite a lot and if you do not want to find their hairs on your stuff in the house, you should brush them regularly. They can live outdoors in their kennel but will prefer to be indoors with the family. You should take them for daily exercise because of they fond of active activities.
Golden Retriever Health
This breed is able to survive for life for about 10 to 13 years. And as far as their health is concerned, they are prone to several of them, including hypothyroidism, sub-aortic stenosis (SAS), eye disorders, elbow dysplasia, mast cell tumors, Osteosarcoma, and seizures. Moreover, they are also susceptible to lymphoma, canine hip dysplasia (CHD), hemangiosarcoma, and skin problems.
