Himalayan Cat has a strong resemblance to Siamese breed and they are indeed considered a Persian of the Siamese drag. Though known to be quite discriminating, this cat has a very great quality to recommend them besides their glamorous look.

Himalayan Cat History
This cat is one of the natural breeds. But the cat final look is a result of a cross between the Persian and Siamese that is how they have the eyes, colors, and pattern of Siamese but with a long coat and glamorous appearance of a Persian. The attempt was made in 1931. In 1950, breeders in British and North America planned on creating a Siamese-pointed Persian. There were some different opinions on whether to classify this breed as one of the Persians or to give them a new breed. While the Cat Fanciers Association recognized the Himalayan recognized it as a distinct breed and so are American Association of Cat Enthusiasts, the American Cat Fanciers Association, and the Traditional Cat Association, the CFA Board of Directors, The American Cat Association, The International Cat Association believes they should be classified as Persians.

Himalayan Cat Size
This cat is medium in size since they usually gain weight for about 7 to 12 pounds with moderate height just like Persians are.

Himalayan Cat Characteristics and Personality
Their personality is quite the same to the Persians. They are sweet temper, calm and docile breed. They enjoy their days playing and to be on laps. But they can be slightly discriminating. They like to be superior and is treated so. They take time before really into a family and into people. They need to build their trust in them. They want peaceful and tranquil surroundings and hate loudness. They got nice musical voice and will not bother to climb higher place and love to rule the floors.

There is a long list of potential health problems that they may face. It can be affected by their individual genetic also. Most of the diseases are related to their facial features.

  • Eye problems such as cherry eye, entropion and progressive retinal atrophy

Himalayan Cat Care and Grooming
This cat should be taken care well for they got a long haired coat which should be brushed daily. Bathe them regularly once a month. Clean their litter box well because they are very particular about the hygiene of their place. Wipe the corners of the eyes well and brush their teeth daily or at least once a week. Since this cat is fragile for the outdoor world, you are better to keep them inside only.

Himalayan Cat Coat and Colors
As far as their coat is concerned, this cat has a similar coat as the Persians. It features long hairs on it which are pretty thick and very smooth. The texture is nice and it appears shiny. They got a lot of ruff around their neck. And as the color of it, they look like a Siamese. In fact, the pattern is just so strikingly similar. As for the eyes, they are commonly in colors like a deep, vivid blue.
