Maltese History and Background
Surprisingly, this dog is actually one of the oldest dogs in the world. In fact, they are known as the most ancient and oldest toy dog in Europe. There is a unique history about Maltese. It is believed that around the 1500 B.C., Phoenician sailors came to the Malta Island to do some trading practices. It was when they found the breed. However, the history goes about the discovery of this breed in Greek art in the 5th century. There were also tombs that Greek folks erected for this dog. It was in 1300, this breed got recognition in England. There were women of higher rank that took interest at them. In 1877, they were starting to be introduced to American folks in an exhibition. In 1888, officially the American Kennel Club recognized them as a breed. And now, they are one of the most popular toy dog pet in the world.
Maltese Physical Characteristics
This can be classified as a miniature dog with their small and petite stature. They got a square yet compact body which is completely covered by silky, soft and glossy hairs. Some people like to trim or cut them while some prefer them long haired. They got cute and adorable yet gentle look. They are energetic and light on their feet. However, this little dog has alertness about them.
